WiFi for Out-of-Home (OOH) Media Networks
From a glance to a sign-in.
Out-of-home has always been sold on an estimate: how many people probably passed, probably looked. Purple turns the panel itself into a place someone can join a network, POPIA-compliant — the platform 80,000+ venues run on across 90+ countries. What passes and how long it dwells is then measured where the panel actually stands, rather than modelled from traffic counts. And the same login can do more — the people who chose to sign in become a first-party list you own, not an audience you rent back from somebody else.

What are you here to solve?
Four ways into out-of-home media. Pick the one that sounds like your week.
What the platform measures at the panel
Three measurements, not one estimate
Purple reads physical space the way web analytics reads a site: passing traffic from unassociated probe requests, dwell time as how long a unique device stays in range, and zone transitions as the journey between coverage areas. At a panel that is reach, attention and direction of travel — measured, not modelled.
Measured only as well as it is covered
Accuracy follows coverage: a sparse site reads as a blind spot rather than a quiet one. Density gets surveyed before anyone publishes a number against a rate card.
A first-party list, with consent at the point of sign-in
Whoever joins does so deliberately, opted in and timestamped, with a self-service route to view or delete their own record. The list is the media owner's, not a platform's.
Already-onboarded passers-by
Purple is a Wireless Broadband Alliance Identity Provider onboarding users onto OpenRoaming networks, so a device that has joined elsewhere can connect at a site without starting again.
Compliant by design
ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified, GDPR / CCPA / POPIA-aligned, with a choice of where the data lives — your own premises, a private cloud, or a fixed set of cloud regions.
And the same login can do more than connect. Step inside for ten seconds.
The ten seconds your passer-by never notices.
A wait long enough to join.
At a shelter or a mall screen the dwell is already there — the sign-in turns it into a connection rather than an assumption.
A rate card with evidence under it.
Traffic and dwell measured at the site itself, wired into the inventory system, so a premium price has something behind it.
A dark panel, reported from the panel.
Logged at the spot and tied to the site record, instead of described from memory at the end of a round.
Your passer-by never noticed the tech. Your team never lifted a finger.
Passing traffic and dwell measured at the panel itself, and a first-party list built only from people who chose to sign in.
Proven platform, deployed on the ground
Purple runs the guest WiFi for some of the biggest names in retail, banking, hospitality and sport. Beyond's own team deploys it on the hardware you already own, wires it into the systems you already run, and supports it from South Africa — not from a call centre in another timezone. Your out-of-home media run on that team.
Built on Purple. We take that foundation and make it yours — the login becomes part of your building.
What Beyond adds with your campaign and inventory systems
The passer-by
A wait at a shelter is long enough to join, and long enough to be welcomed back the next time they wait there. Beyond can key that welcome to the site rather than to the network in general.
The advertiser
Purple's out-of-home research puts consumers around 48% more likely to click a mobile ad once they have already passed the same brand physically — the case for treating a panel as the first half of a response rather than an impression on its own. Beyond can join what a site measured to the campaign booked against it, so a mid-flight conversation runs on evidence rather than a model.
The sales and inventory lead
Beyond can wire dwell and repeat-passing figures into the rate card and the booking system, so a premium site is priced on what it demonstrably delivers.
The field technician
A dark panel reported from the spot it was found, tied to the site record rather than a description phoned in later.
The media owner
One view across roadside, transit and retail inventory, with the same measurement behind each — instead of three different arguments about reach.
You keep your inventory and booking systems, your campaign reporting and whatever hardware is already at the sites. Beyond integrates and measures rather than replacing — and where a site cannot be measured honestly, we say so rather than modelling it.

Frequently asked
Is this counting people who never interacted with the panel?
It measures devices passing and dwelling near the site's access points, and it names nobody. A person becomes known only if they choose to sign in and opt in, and that record is theirs to view or delete. Passing traffic and a named contact are two different things and we keep them that way.
Can every site be measured?
No, and that is worth saying before a rate card is built on it. Accuracy follows coverage — a site with sparse access points reads as a blind spot rather than a quiet one. We survey density first and tell you which sites can carry a number.
Do we have to replace our inventory or booking system?
No. Beyond wires into the systems you already sell and report from — that integration is the job.
Isn't this just WiFi analytics? We already estimate footfall.
Estimating tells you what probably happened near a site. This measures what did, at the site, and lets you act on it while the campaign is still running — a report against a response.
Who actually built the WiFi part?
Purple, and we would rather say so. Beyond deploys it at your sites, integrates it into what you sell from, and supports it on the ground in South Africa.
Let's measure one site properly.
Book a 30-minute walkthrough. We'll take a single panel — what its coverage can honestly measure, what it would take to sign someone in there, and what that changes on the rate card.
